Christmas decorations, but turn the colour up.
If your idea of festive decorating involves rather more colour than beige and tasteful greenery, these might have your name written all over them.
This one-off set of four handmade crochet Christmas baubles combines electric blue, hot pink, bright orange and white in a gloriously colourful variegated yarn, with sparkly thread running throughout to catch the light.
There's something distinctly retro about this colour combination. A little bit 80s. A little bit party decoration. And definitely not taking Christmas decorating too seriously.
The variegated yarn creates different patterns as I crochet around each bauble, so although all four have been made using the same yarn, no two have exactly the same colour placement.
They coordinate rather than match – which is very much the point.
Made for a green Christmas tree, but not only for Christmas.
These colours would absolutely pop against the deep green of a Christmas tree.
Mix them amongst traditional decorations for an unexpected blast of colour, use all four together as a statement set, or combine them with other bright baubles for a full-on colourful or maximalist Christmas tree.
But there's no particular reason they need to disappear into a box in January.
The hot pink, orange and electric blue make them great fun for birthday parties, celebrations and colourful party décor too. Try them hanging from branches, incorporated into a garland, grouped in a decorative bowl or used as colourful hanging decorations around the home.
They're Christmas baubles if you want them to be.
They're colourful decorations if you don't.
Rescued baubles + repurposed yarn
Underneath every crocheted cover is an existing bauble that's been rescued, donated or otherwise saved from being discarded.
I don't buy new plastic baubles simply to crochet over them. Instead, I work with decorations that already exist and give them a completely different second life.
This set goes one step further because the bright acrylic yarn is 100% repurposed too.
I don't buy new acrylic yarn for my crochet baubles. Using yarn that already exists means perfectly usable materials get used rather than wasted – and in this case, they've become something considerably more colourful in the process.
The sparkly thread running through the crochet adds that final bit of festive shine.
